Government requirements

Government requirements

Canadian government legally requires for international students under the age of 18 or 19 (depending on the province) to have a Canadian based custodian whilst they study in Canada.

Age of majority

Provinces and territories determine the age when a person becomes an adult. This is known as “age of majority”.  A person under the age of majority is a “minor child”. In the province of Ontario, the age of majority is 18. International minor students in Ontario must have a Custodian in Canada.  A custodian is a responsible adult who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
